Ten Commandments logotype

This ancient parchment manuscript of the Commandments will be on display for 15 days only as part of a larger exhibit of the famed Dead Sea Scrolls and more than 500 other never-before seen biblical artifacts at Discovery Times Square, 226 West 44th Street, between 7th & 8th Avenues.

Due to their fragility the Israeli Antiquities Authority says this will be the last time the precious Ten Commandments scroll, written in Hebrew on a parchment that measures just over 18 inches by 3 inches, will ever be on public display.

The LIRR's Discovery Times Square Discount Package will get you to Dead Sea Scrolls: The Exhibition with a discount package that includes off-peak, round trip rail fare and general admission to one Discovery Times Square Exhibit. That's means you can save up to 40% over the regular cost of rail travel and admission to the exhibit.

The package price for adults is $33.50 traveling from Zones 1-12 and $37 from Zone 14. The price for children ages 5-11 is $15.50. Seniors 65+ from Zones 1-4 should purchase LIRR Senior fares and admission at the venue ($22.50); for other zones, seniors save more with the LIRR package. Go to www.mta.info/lirr/getaways/NewYorkCity/TenCommandments for details.

Discovery Times Square is open daily and reachable from Penn Station by walking 10 short blocks (about 15 minutes) or via the 1, 2, 3, A, C or E uptown subway to 42nd Street and then a short walk north to 44th between 7th & 8th Avenues.

The opportunity to examine the Ten Commandments and the other Dead Sea Scrolls promises to be a fascinating archeological journey through the Holy Land in the years from around 250 BC to 68 AD. Although the Ten Commandments scroll will be on view on from December 16, 2011 to January 2, 2012, the larger exhibit, Dead Sea Scrolls: Life and Faith in Biblical Times, continues through April 15, 2012. The LIRR's Discovery Times Square Discount Package is applicable to this and any one exhibit at Discovery Times Square.
