New LIRR Timetables In Effect Monday, Sept. 12

Service Enhancements and Track Maintenance Work Means Schedule Changes for Trains on Main Line, Long Beach, West Hempstead, Oyster Bay, Montauk & Far Rockaway Branches

New LIRR timetables went into effect Monday, Sept. 12 on all branches -; bringing service enhancements and temporary schedule adjustments for off-peak trains to allow for important track maintenance projects.

The projects include a thorough clean up on the Main Line right-of-way, the installation of new rail ties between Babylon and Sayville on the Montauk branch and crossing renewals on the Main Line and Long Beach branches. Whenever possible the LIRR schedules maintenance work during off-peak periods, such as midday during the week and on weekends, to minimize the impact on most LIRR customers who use the Railroad during the AM and PM rush hours to get to and from work. Customers using the LIRR on the branches affected by the maintenance and repair work should allow extra travel time when planning a trip.

The new timetables also include several service enhancements the LIRR was able to implement within current budget constraints, including:

a weekend westbound Far Rockaway Branch train that currently departs Valley Stream at 6:03 AM will be extended to include all stations on the Far Rockaway Branch.

a weekend eastbound Speonk train that departs Jamaica at 7:41 PM will operate 6 minutes earlier at 7:35 PM, and the westbound train departing Montauk at 7:34 PM will leave Montauk 1 minute earlier at 7:33 PM to improve on time performance.
