Full F, Q Service Restored to Coney Island

Following the replacement of track panels, sections of fiberglass walkway and wood track ties damaged in a signal room fire at the W. 8th St station, crews were able to restore full F and Q service between the Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue Terminal and the Avenue X and Brighton Beach stations.

F and Q service in and out of Coney Island was knocked out late Friday afternoon, when a signal room near the W. 8th St station caught fire. The resulting damage forced subway managers to suspend service so repairs could be made Saturday. During the outage free shuttle bus service replaced train service in the area.

F service was restored shortly after 7:00 p.m. Saturday night, Q service was restored hours later, shortly after midnight.

Transit workers from several disciplines labored through the day Saturday to replace damaged tracks and ties, as well as the signal room roof. The cause of Friday night's fire on the roof of the signal room near the West 8th Street station is still under investigation.
