App of the Week: myBus NYC

Our App of the Week is myBus NYC, which was launched in June to help bus riders find bus stops, route info and upcoming schedules.

"MyBus was designed to be a quick and effective way for bus riders to find their next bus," said Younes Oughla of App Impulse, who designed the app. "I thought it would be great to have an app that presents transit scheduling information in a new way by focusing on the individual user and taking advantage of the features offered by today's mobile devices."

For regular commuters who ride the bus every day, the app offers schedules in just one step: Simply open the app. "Once users save their usual stops and routes, myBus automatically displays the next four buses relevant to the user as soon as the App is opened," Oughla said. "This means that users don't need to go through complicated timetables and countless bus routes each time they want to find their bus."

If you want to find a bus stop in an unfamiliar neighborhood, you can either enter an address or use your current location. When you find a desired bus stop, just tap on it for upcoming schedules as well as a street view image showing the bus stop in the context of the street.

Whether you're a regular rider or using a new stop for the first time, you can find upcoming departures or select a date and time in the future to plan trips in advance. The app is free of charge and is currently available for iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad. It incorporates all routes operated by MTA New York City Transit and the MTA Bus Company. App Impulse also offers a <a href=" version for New Jersey.
