Other than apple pie, nothing is more American than the renowned Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest as we celebrate another Independence Day. This Monday, July 4th, you can get there by swiping your MetroCard and taking the D, F, N, or Q train to Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue and walk over to Nathan's located at 1310 Surf Ave.

The world's best competitive eaters come to New York each year for the event that has been held since 1916, and for the first time, the competition is split into men's and women's divisions. The winners in each division will take home a $20,000 prize. The men's favorite, Joey Chestnut, is looking to capture his 5th crown. On the women's side, Sonya Thomas, is expected to lead the pack after holding 24 different competitive-eating world records.

Joey Chestnut is the current hot dog eating record holder chomping on 68 hot dogs and buns in 10 minutes. The 105-pound Thomas happens to be the female record holder putting down 41 dogs.

The contest is free and open to the public and kicks off with pre-contest entertainment at 10 a.m. The women will compete at 11:30 a.m. and the men will chow down at noon. For more information, visit
