Bundling Up For Cold Commute

With bitter cold and sub-freezing temperatures expected for the morning rush hour across the region, the MTA took steps over the weekend and throughout the night to make sure critical components remain in working order across the commuter rail and subway network.

Extra crews were positioned in yards while others checked on signals, and switches along the right of way. Deicer and scraper trains ran to make sure ice did not build up on rails. Some subway trains were stored underground overnight, but will be back in service in time for this morning's rush hour. Buses were monitored overnight to make sure the equipment was ready for pullout.

Customers are urged to take extra precaution navigating bus stops, platforms and sidewalks and to monitor Current Service Status for information on bus, commuter rail and subway service.
