MTA Service Normal as Employees Battle Snow

New York City subways and buses, the Long Island Rail Road, Metro-North Railroad and Staten Island Railway are operating on or close to schedule and plan to offer normal service throughout the duration of the storm. Bus commuters may experience minor delays due to wet or icy roadway conditions throughout the five boroughs and should allow extra travel time if possible.

MTA crews have been out all day clearing station platforms and keeping switches heated and clear of ice. They will sand and salt platforms this afternoon to combat snow and ice buildup and provide pedestrians with better footing. As temperatures drop this evening, the MTA reminds customers to be on the lookout for icy conditions, take extra care when walking on platforms, and hold the hand-rail when walking on stairways.

Bridges and Tunnels

All roadways and ramps at the MTA’s seven bridges and two tunnels remain open. Personnel will continue monitoring roadway temperatures for icing conditions and will continue salting operations throughout the night. Drivers are urged to travel at a reduced speed and keep a safe distance between cars to avoid collisions caused by sudden braking.
